Life at Eerde: A Hidden Gem Among Dutch Boarding Schools
Tucked away in the tranquil countryside of the Netherlands, about an hour and a half from Amsterdam, there’s a school where students from over 20 countries live, learn, and grow together — Eerde International Boarding School.
With just around 100 students across its day and boarding programs, Eerde feels more like a close-knit community than a traditional school. Set on a beautiful 18th-century estate, the campus feels peaceful and focused — a place where creativity and learning have room to breathe. It’s not hard to imagine students sketching under the trees, debating ideas in small classrooms, or preparing for global universities in the school’s modern study spaces. If you like working in the small groups, individualised attention and family feel in school, then Eerde is your perfect place.
Eerde offers a strong academic foundation through its IB programme, preparing students for top universities worldwide — but what makes the experience truly unique is the way academics are balanced with creative and personal development. For students interested in art, design, or other creative disciplines, Eerde’s visual arts programme stands out not only for its quality, but also for its real-world connections. A highlight is the school’s collaboration with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, giving young artists the opportunity to engage directly with one of Europe’s most renowned art institutions. This blend of rigorous academics and cultural enrichment helps students grow not just as learners, but as well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world.
Student Sofia
Our student Sofija, from Belgrade, Serbia, an IB Visual Arts student, has been successfully selected to attend master photography classes and to hold a photographic exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, having been shortlisted for her submission in the photo contest.
Belgrade, Serbia – April 2025
Silent scream for our home, fighting to get our pride back. Fighting for justice.
Standing together, hoping there is a tomorrow. Standing to get our home back.
In the same country, invisible boundaries divide our ideologies, values, and hopes,
but there is always a connection.
The same desire for a safe, stable home and a warm hug.
Harsh times, filled with grief and longing for closure.
But I, far away from home when it needs me most, hope that my young soul,
full of love, stands with my country and dear ones, protecting them from despair.
Boarding life
Boarding life in Eerde school is warm and structured. Students share living spaces that feel more like dorm apartments than traditional boarding houses. Weekend activities range from exploring Dutch cities to quiet evenings on campus. It’s an ideal environment for teenagers who want independence but also need guidance — especially those coming from abroad.
Who is Eerde for?
It’s for the curious, the globally minded and the ones who want something more personal than a big international school. Whether your child is aiming for a creative university path, building language fluency, or simply looking for a unique educational experience in Europe, Eerde offers a thoughtful and supportive space to do just that. They know the child well and with their help every child can reach a full academic potential.
