Applying to Canadian Universities

APPLYING TO CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES

Canada, a country with a good quality education and great migration possibilities.

Canada is the second largest country in the world with great number of universities and schools open to international students to study in English.

Is Canada the right destination for you? Here are some tips for to help you discover.

  • Canada is the country with the most educated people in the world- more than half of the inhabitants have a university degree.
  • Canada is the 3rd in the world after Saudi Arabia and Venezuela when it comes to oil reserves.
  • Canadian dollar bills are also using Braille alphabet so the blind can use them as well without problems.
  • Canada has more lakes than all the other countries in the world combined.
  • Canada is one of a few places in the world where you can see the dance of the polar lights (aurora borealis).

EDUCATION SYSTEM IN CANADA

Canadian system allows you to get a certificate or diploma after every year of study (depending on the length of a study):

  • 1 year – Certificate of Completion
  • 2 years – Diploma
  • 3 years – Advanced Diploma
  • 4 years – Bachelor Degree

It will take you 4 years to obtain a bachelor’s degree. On the other hand, should you not complete a full cycle, you will be able to get some certificate for the work done.

It is not common to go to Masters degree program straight after college because you will be considered overqualified for the job market. Instead, students are taking one or two year postgraduate programs and only after a few years of a work experience they enrol to master’s degree program or stay in the industry with a degree they already obtained.

International students must know that a student visa is also a work visa. That means that you can work part time during the week (20 hours/week) and during holidays and school break, you can work full time, 40 hours a week.

Anyone studying in Canada qualifies for Post-Graduation Work Permit. If you complete one year of studies, you are qualified for a one-year work permit. For two years you are entitled to work legally and stay for three years.

If you have a family and you decide to study in Canada, your spouse is automatically entitled to work, and your child can go to a public school for free.
